Origin:Germanic / Greek
Meaning:Genuine; bold / Master
Archie is a diminutive of Archibald, which was derived from the Germanic words ercan - "genuine" and bald - "bold". The beginning of the name was altered using the Greek word archos (ἀρχός), meaning "master". Archibald was originally brought to England by the Normans and its use eventually spread to Scotland as well. Archie as a stand-alone name has only increased in popularity in the 21st century, especially after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used the name for their son in 2019.
