Origin:Hebrew
Meaning:South of the right hand, son of the south
Benjamin comes from the Hebrew name Binyamin (ִבּנְיָ ִמין ), meaning "son of the south" or "son of the right hand," from the elements ben (ֵבּן ) meaning "son" and yamin (יָ ִמין) meaning "right hand" or "south". In the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Benjamin was the twelfth and youngest son of Jacob and founder of one of the twelve tribes of Israelites. The name came into common use in England following the Protestant Reformation and has remained consistently popular into even the 21st century.
