Origin:Hebrew
Meaning:My God is Yaweh (YHWH)
Elijah comes from the Hebrew name Eliyyahu, meaning "my God is Yahweh" (referring to the unspoken name of the Hebrew God YHWH), the name derived from the elements 'el (ֵאל ) and yah (יָה), both of which refer to the Hebrew God. In Abrahamic religions, Elijah was prophet and miracle worker. The name came into general use in England during the Middle Ages and was revived during the Protestant Reformation. In modern times, its popularity began to grow in the late 1990s and 2000s and is currently on an upward trend.
