Origin:Germanic
Meaning:Home ruler
From the Germanic name Heimirich (also spelt Heinrich), which means "home ruler," from the elements heim, meaning "home" and ric, meaning "ruler". The name was popular amongst early German and French kings before being introduced to England during the Norman Conquest, where it was used for eight English kings (including the infamous Henry VIII). The pronunciation shifted to Harry during the Middle Ages. While it has always been a relatively popular name, it is currently seeing a resurgence in popularity.
