Origin:Hebrew
Meaning:One who laughs, one who rejoices
The name Isaac comes from the Hebrew name Yitzchaq (יִ ְצ ָחק), meaning "one who laughs" or "one who rejoices," from the Hebrew word tzachaq (ָצ ַחק ), meaning "to laugh". Isaac is known in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as a son of Abraham and one of the three Biblical patriarchs. Although used by some English Christians during the Middle Ages, the name was more common amongst Jews. Its use amongst Christians became more widespread following the Protestant Reformation. In modern times, its popularity has been on the rise since the late 20th century.
