Origin:English / Hebrew
Meaning:God is gracious
Jack comes from Jackin, an English medieval diminutive of John, which itself can ultimately be traced back to the Hebrew name Yochanan (יוֹ ָחנָן), meaning "God is gracious". During the Middle Ages, the name Jack was so common, it eventually became a slang word for "man". The name Jack appears in many fairy tales and folk rhymes, such as Jack and the Beanstalk and Jack Sprat. Jack reached peak popularity in modern times in the late 90s and early 2000s.
