Origin:Greek; Aramaic
Meaning:Twin
Thomas is the Greek form of the Aramaic name Ta'oma (ָתּאוֹ ָמא ) and means "twin". It was introduced to England following the Norman Conquest and became popular due to Thomas Becket, the 12th century archbishop of Canterbury and martyr. It was one of the top names from the 13th to 19th centuries and maintained its popularity until the beginning of the 20th century, when it began to dip. While it has risen again since its low in the 1970s, it appears to be on a downward trend once again, though still a very popular name.
Trend in position over time since 2010
