The name appears in both the Greek and Hebrew forms in the Old and New Testament of the Bible. The name was initially more common amongst Christians in Eastern Europe, however, it became extremely common in England following the reign of Queen Elizabeth I during the 16th century. In modern times, it peaked in 1954, following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
