Origin:Arabic / Sami; Old Norse

Laila can be derived from multiple sources. It is an alternate spelling of the name Layla, meaning "night" in Arabic. It became popular in English following the release of the 1970 song Layla by Derek and the Dominos, which was inspired by the 12th century Persian poem Layla and Majnun. The name can also be derived from Láilá, a Sami form of the name Helga, from the Old Norse heilagr, meaning "holy, blessed". The name rose in popularity throughout the 1990s and early 2000s before peaking around 2010.
